4.4.22 Club of the Week

Club of the Week: York Academy Esports

We’re kicking off our week with another club spotlight. Everyone, please welcome the York Academy Regional Charter School’s esports club managed by Kris Hood in York County, PA. Although they are just starting as a team, the club is excited to have a designated esports space in progress! In the meantime, you can find them playing Rocket League, Apex Legends, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate anytime in the afternoon and evening. Club Manager Kris Hood described the club as having a solid core of players. The club has encouraged good behavior and grades by basing player eligibility on each student’s school performance. They’ve already accomplished so much, such as competing in a Rocket League Tournament, partnering with a sponsor, growing their social media presence, and even running their swag store. Their next plan is to start up a Knockout City team. Kris says esports wasn’t an opportunity offered to him when he was in school, so he’s excited to provide it to his students. He says the club has given the students a chance to escape from reality and get involved with the school community. He hopes the club continues to grow and they find other schools to compete against in Pennsylvania and across the United States. We can’t wait to see the club grow, and we hope to see them create partnerships and rivalries with other schools soon!
