Club of the Week: Newport Esports

This week we’re introducing Newport Esports, managed by Jason Sieber in Perry County, PA. The club is a new addition to the Newport School District. It has already hit the ground running with a designated club space and teams competing in PlayVS, NASEF, Generation Esports, and Emerald Esport’s GYO ladders. While they do compete in tournaments, casual gaming is also encouraged. They’re most active at the end of the school day, where you can find them strategizing champion drafts in League of Legends, scoring goals in Rocket League, and knocking out in Smash Ultimate.

Club Manager Jason Sieber says that many esports career opportunities go beyond professional players. Options in STEM, production, social media, engineering, marketing, and many other fields are available for students to pursue under the gaming umbrella. Jason says, “Being able to provide students with alternative professions that are still related to gaming while allowing them to compete for fun” is something that was not possible before the recent rise in esports. He is glad to manage the club and give a safe space for students to comfortably game and find future success post-graduation.
Jason has found that students have maintained better grades to meet requirements to compete in tournaments. In addition to keeping up with school, students have had the opportunity to come out of their shells and make new friends through shared interests. The club has brought “a lot of students from different lifestyles and backgrounds together in one room where they can all get along.”

We’re happy to hear that Newport Esports is thriving and competing in many tournaments. The space they create for their students encourages teamwork, leadership, and friendship. We look forward to seeing them grow in the years to come!
